Summary

Wise Bread does do a good job at providing people with a restricted budget with information on how to do it. We’ve found the layout really annoying, but the rest of the site is well worth the time. If you are trying to stretch your dollar, Wise Bread should be one of the first sites to check out.

Wise Bread is designed to be a community of bloggers that are there to help you make the most out of your budget. They try to make sure you are aware that you can enjoy the finer things in life even on a small budget. You may be surprised at just how large you can live on what you thought was a small budget. They provide a wide collection of informative articles that you will be able to use and learn from. The range of categories includes personal finance, credit cards, frugal living, career and life hacks.

Idea: 10.0

The concept of living on a budget seems like a really challenging task, and for most of us it’s a daily routine. Wise Bread has created a community that allows people who have a limited budget to find the information needed to stretch that budget enough to actually enjoy life rather than just get by. Learning life hacks that allow you to save money and cut corners can help create additional funding in other areas, to name just one example. We think the idea of sharing the secrets that help a small budget seem bigger is a great thing.

The website has a bunch of information to offer, but finding it may not always be easy. If you know exactly what you’re looking for, you can use the search box. Otherwise, you can simply browse through the categories and check out various articles. To us, the navigation seemed a bit messy, and we would’ve preferred to have the “about” and a couple of other links a bit easier to find. Plus, the small content in the footer nearly blends with the background.

The site is free, which makes sense, since if you’re trying to help people stretch their small budgets, having to pay for the advice would defeat the whole purpose.

The overall design of the site is not exactly horrible, but the layout leaves a lot to be desired. We liked the color scheme, which is easy on the eyes. The content is easy to read and appealing. However, the overall layout of the site just seemed cluttered and almost randomly thrown together, as if they had a box filled with tons of elements, and tossed them at the canvas to see what would stick.

Additionally, the first thing we noticed was the huge ad at the top. Not the usual header ad that’s small and easily overlooked, but one that occupied nearly half the page above the fold. That is not only distracting but, had it not been for reviewing, it would have caused us to simply move on to a different site that didn’t throw ads in our face.

Utility: 9.0

Wise Bread does do a good job at providing people with a restricted budget with information on how to do it. We’ve found the layout really annoying, but the rest of the site is well worth the time. If you are trying to stretch your dollar, Wise Bread should be one of the first sites to check out.
